Lokrum Island

Lokrum Island, which is just a 10-minute ferry ride away from Dubrovnik's Old Harbour, is a UNESCO-protected special reserve of forest vegetation. There are no inhabitants and no vehicles are permitted, so you can walk freely and explore the island with numerous path signs and maps to guide you.

There is a small kiosk on the island, plenty of cafes and restaurants set in a beautiful forest atmosphere.

There are dozens of places where you can swim. cliffs of all heights to do amazing jumps and even a nudist beach. A small lake called the "Dead sea" is also inside the island, and it is our favorite area to relax around.

On Lokrum there is no pressure, and you can spend your day relaxing on the sun loungers covered from shades of trees while drinking cocktails, or you can play soccer, volleyball, or even do the workout in the fitness park.

Be assured that you will meet a lot of friendly peacocks and rabbits ready to be fed or photographed with you :)

Game of Thrones fans has one more reason to visit since Lokrum was a filming location, representing the city of Quarth in the tv-series. After the shooting was done, HBO decided to gift a replica of the throne to the island, on which you can freely sit and take photos, and is housed in the Benedictine monastery.

If you decide to actively explore the island, some good points would be:

-Botanical garden displaying over 500 plants and tree species with explanatory signs, planted in the 19th century

-Benedictine monastery, dated from the 11th century with a display on the island's history

-Fort Royal, built on the highest point of the island (96 meters/315 feet) by the French during a brief period of occupation in the early 19th century, where you can climb to the rooftop through the fort for the best view on the island.

-Dead sea, this 10meters deep lake is connected to the sea with an underwater passage, is a crystal clear and calm place suitable to take a bath even for non-swimmers or children.
